About Me

Hello! My name is Sarah Fleming, and I'm a paper addict living in central Texas. I'm an independent demonstrator for Stampin' Up! and love to teach others how to make lovely paper projects. I always have ink-stained fingers (I'm okay with that). I also knit. If you're in the USA, I'd love to be your demonstrator!

Fancy Mermaid

Stampin' Up! Magical Mermaid handmade birthday card - Acetate & Tissue technique - Bouquet Bunch framelits - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye Papercrafts

This is my Love a Technique Challenge project for the Creative Crew’s Summer Lovin’ theme this month. I went with the amazing Magical Mermaid stamp set and used the Acetate & Tissue technique. I stamped the seaweed on the Pool Party card base in Emerald Envy, Lemon-Lime Twist, and Pool Party (full strength and stamped off). I stamped the water drops/bubbles in Pool Party and the sentiment in Emerald Envy.

I glued down three leafy stems cut with the Bouquet Bunch framelits out of Basic Black, Emerald Envy, and Vellum cardstock.

For my mermaid panel, I stamped the mermaid in StazOn Jet Black ink on a Window Sheet. I also stamped the seaweed in Emerald Envy and Lemon-Lime Twist on the piece of Whisper White card that gets glued behind the mermaid. I also stamped the water drops/bubbles in Bermuda Bay on that piece. [After the glue made the ink bleed, these have turned into kind of faint imprints. I really like the look! I did three others that turned out with darker imprints.] I flipped the mermaid sheet over, covered it with a lot of glue from the Fine Tip Glue Pen, and added two drops of Pool Party ink to the bottom half and three drops of Pink Pirouette ink to the top half of the panel. I smoothed the colors around with my fingers. Then I sprinkled on a decent amount of Dazzling Diamonds glitter. I crinkled the tissue up, opened it back up, and placed it on top of the colored glue, then flipped the whole thing over to glue it to the piece of stamped Whisper White cardstock. This takes quite a while to dry. After it was dry, I cut it out with the largest oval from the Stitched Shapes framelits — you may have to run this through several times.

After I cut out the mermaid, I cut out the same size oval from Basic Black cardstock and glued the two pieces together, offset a little. I looped Silver Mini Sequin Trim behind the ovals, then popped the ovals up on Dimensionals.

Since the mermaid tail was cut out of the picture, I made a second one. I stamped the tail in Archival Basic Black on Whisper White cardstock. I used ink from the lids of my Emerald Envy and Lemon-Lime Twist ink pads with a Blender Pen to color in the tail. I fussy cut the tail out, covered it with glue from the Fine Tip Glue Pen, sprinkled on more Dazzling Diamonds (I decided she will be a Fancy Mermaid), and let it dry. After it dried, I stuck the tail to the card base with Mini Dimensionals and adhered the top of the tail to the Window Sheet with the Fine Tip Glue Pen. I didn’t like how the top of the tail looked, so I stuck a sequin over the V. :)

I topped off the card with more sequins.
