Otter Be

Good afternoon! Welcome to the 3rd Thursdays Blog Hop! This is a pretty new blog hop, so for now, it’s a short hop! We are working on adding more people. I’m excited to be on this team with several very talented people! Our theme this month is “Sweet Treats”, and we hope you’re inspired by our projects.

I’m using the Hey Love stamp set (aDORable) from the Occasions catalog, along with a stamp from Little Elephant (on the card only). I chose Lovely Lipstick, Flirty Flamingo, and Crumb Cake for my colors and made a treat box and a mini 3″x3″ card for putting in a gift bag.

The Reese’s Pink Hearts slide in from the top of the box. [Side note: These are DELICIOUS. They taste like the white trees.]

To make the box, you need an 8-1/2″x3-1/2″ piece of cardstock. Mine is Flirty Flamingo. On the long side, score at 1/4″, 3/4″, 2-1/4″, 2-3/4″, 5-3/4″, 6-1/4″, 7-3/4″, and 8-1/4″. On the short side, score at 1/2″. Then score at 2-1/4″ on each short edge, but only score in 3/4″. Then snip the tops as shown above, and along the bottom of the box, snip and wedge all score lines (but don’t wedge the 1-1/2″ panels)  and snip off the 1/4″ side pieces, as shown. Put strong adhesive on flaps as shown. Note: I used Tear & Tape here because my Fast Fuse was downstairs, but my preference for boxes and bags is Fast Fuse (Tombow Extreme). For light treats like these hearts, Tear & Tape will be fine.

Take off the release paper for all but the long bottom flap and fold in the box as shown – you’re basically folding this in to be two side-by-side boxes, with the 1/4″ end flaps sticking to the inside of the back of the box. Then you stick th two middle flaps together to form that separation line between the boxes. Above is what it looks like from the bottom after it’s taped together.

Remove the release paper from the long flap and fold it in, then fold in the two front flaps (the ones you didn’t wedge) so they’re side by side. I accidentally overlapped them, so do a better job than me.

The belly band is 8-3/8″x1″ of Lovely Lipstick cardstock, which I adhered together in the front after folding it around the box. Don’t stick it to the box, just to itself. Then I added a strip of ribbon from the All My Love Ribbon Combo Pack, about 4″, using Tear & Tape. I stamped the otter in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored him with Light & Dark Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends and colored the heart with Light and Dark Flirty Flamingo. I cut it out with a Stitched Shapes oval.

I stamped the punny sentiment in Lovely Lipstick and cut it out twice with the Rectangle Stitched framelits and added it to the tag with Dimensionals. I also added a little Flirty Flamingo bow, using the other ribbon in the same combo pack.

Here is a closeup of the little gift tag. It’s 3″x3″ (3″x6″, scored at 3″) and the Whisper White cardfront is 2-7/8″ square. I stamped this to match my box and colored the otter with the Blends again. I also added the little heart bouquets from the Little Elephant stamp set in Flirty Flamingo. This time I stamped the “hey, valentine” sentiment in Lovely Lipstick and used a Rectangle Stitched framelit (cut twice to make it small enough for my sentiment) to cut it out.

Thanks for stopping by today! Make sure you follow the hop all the way through! You’re currently at Sarah Fleming’s blog (in the USA), and next is my friend Kimberley Morris.
