Desk Cleanoff Card for Fab Friday

Good morning! Did you get snowed in this weekend? We woke up to about four inches of snow on Saturday (and it kept coming), but driving in it was doable, so I went to my friend’s stamp camp and then came home and finished editing my husband’s book!! I’m so happy to have that done, and he’s happy to be sending the manuscript off to his publisher today. Yesterday we woke up to -3 degree temps, though, so all I have to say about that is BRRRRRR. No no no no no. Just no.

This is what I call a “desk cleanoff card”, one of my favorite kinds of cards to make lately. As the name suggests, I came across almost everything on the card as I was cleaning off my desk (after weeks of not being able to see the top of it). I had in mind to use the colors for the Fab Friday challenge on this card, so I added some Coastal Cabana elements to the things I’d found on my desk, and a card was born.

And now I just went and looked at the Fab Friday design team cards again and noticed my general layout is really close to Justin’s layout. While I do love his card and have saved it for later CASEing, that was actually not intentional. Oops!

Have a great day!

Deck the Halls for Dynamic Duos #82

Happy Saturday, friends! Today is happy for me, because I get to go to my upline’s stamp camp, and then if all goes as planned, I will finish editing my husband’s book today and can finally start on sending out Christmas cards, catching up on housecleaning and budget stuff, baking my booty off, Christmas shopping (I’ve barely even started!), and decorating the house. It’s not too late, right?

It’s “Bold & Cheery” week at Dynamic Duos, and this challenge was, well, a challenge for me. I love Gumball Green — one of my favorites, for real — but Primrose Petals… Nah. I’m sure I would have liked it many years ago, but that’s before I moved into our house and was faced with this horridness in my kitchen:

kitchenwallpaperprimrose

The living room was worse. We are still working on the wallpaper situation in this house. So I have a hard time with Primrose Petals. Because of traumatic wallpaper experiences. :)

Anyway, I wanted to focus on the Gumball Green, for obvious reasons, and I also wanted to feature white. But then, oh, this Deck the Halls stamp is so cute (from the Christmas Messages set), and that helped me decide to use the sheet music-ish paper from Modern Medley. So I wanted these ornaments, because that’s what we use to deck said halls, and since I’m so in love with Festive Flurry (stamps and framelits), I couldn’t resist adding a snowflake. I wanted to use Very Vanilla, but on a whim I decided to see what it looked like in Basic Black. Then I decided I’d try an ornament stamped in black, too, and ooh la la, I really loved the look! A black snowflake is a little ridiculous, but also a little awesome, right? Though I admittedly would NOT care to wake up to a blanket of black snow on the ground! Can you imagine? “Pass the ammo, it must be zombie apocalypse time, kids!”

I still needed some sparkly touches (gotta have something shiny!), so I added lots of rhinestones and the Silver Foil strip, embossed with the Pretty Print embossing folder (because sheet music needs lyrics, right?). Embossed Foil Sheets are on the list of my favorite things right now — such a big wow factor. And since I’m addicted to the 1/8″ Silver Ribbon, I threw a little bow on one ornament just for fun.

I forgot to get a picture of it, but I did finish the inside of the card. I added a 4″ x 5-1/4″ panel of Very Vanilla and then stamped the “Hoping your Christmas…” sentiment in Gumball Green. Before I mail it out, I’ll probably also stamp a partial ornament in the lower right corner in Gumball Green.

I like how the card turned out. A little unexpected. What do you think?

I hope you’ll head on over to Dynamic Duos to see what the other design team members came up with. I’m amazed each week that we’re all given the same challenge and come up with such varied designs. I’m so proud to be on this design team with such talented ladies!

Festive Flurry Shaker – Dynamic Duos #81

Good morning, and Happy Saturday, everyone! I hope you had a great Thanksgiving. I ate my weight in dressing and then ate too much pie and too many oatmeal cookies. I may or may not have had pie for breakfast yesterday morning, and I may or may not be eating an oatmeal cookie while I write this post.

Dynamic Duos #81 - DD#81 - Stampin' Up! Festive Flurry shaker card

This week at Dynamic Duos, it’s Your Choice week!

dd81

The challenge is to use Midnight Muse, and you choose the other color (plus neutrals). I chose Pistachio Pudding, though it looks more like Pear Pizzazz in the photo.

I’ve actually never made a shaker card before, and I was really pleased with how this one turned out. The snowflakes are all cut using the Festive Flurry framelits, and the Pistachio Pudding snowflakes are stamped using the Festive Flurry stamp set.

To make the shaker snowflake, I first stamped the smallest snowflake in Midnight Muse, then in Pistachio pudding. I cut out both images with the smallest framelit, then also cut a snowflake out of a Window Sheet using the same framelit. I punched a 3/4″ Circle out of the center of the Pistachio snowflake, then glued the Window Sheet snowflake to the back of the Pistachio Pudding snowflake using Crystal Effects. After sticking a Rhinestone to the center of the Midnight snowflake, I adhered a Shaker Frame to the top of the same snowflake, then added some Silver Glass Stampin’ Glitter inside the frame. Then I adhered the Pistachio/Window snowflake on top of the Shaker Frame.

I started with a 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ card base but then cut off 1-1/4″ or so because I wanted the snowflakes to hang off the edge of the card. Before I glued down the large snowflake, I embossed the base using the Northern Flurry embossing folder.

I put Dimensionals between each snowflake layer, but I used tape runner on the back of the largest snowflake and then on the back of the shaker snowflake since it already had a lot of dimension from the use of the Shaker Frame.

The greeting is from Christmas Messages. I love this stamp!

I used the Midnight Muse 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon to make the bow, and before I pulled my knot tight, I slipped a short length of the Pistachio Pudding Ruffle Stretch Trim into the back side of the bow. I glue-dotted the bow onto the card, then added several Rhinestones to finish off the card.

I hope you like the card and will join us at Dynamic Duos. We’d love to see your take on the challenge! Midnight Muse goes well with so many colors. Head on over to the challenge blog to see the other designers’ fabulous cards!

Smoky Ho Ho Ho to You

Dynamic Duos #79 DD#79 - Santa's List, A Banner Christmas, and Endless Wishes - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye
Dynamic Duos #79

Good morning! It’s Black Tie week at Dynamic Duos, and this week Basic Black is paired with Smoky Slate. The dessert option is Christmas, so I decided to challenge myself and make a completely neutral Christmas card. It was hard! But I did finally come up with something I loved.

The Smoky Slate background is embossed using the Pretty Print folder. I sponged on some Illuminate Glimmer Watermark Ink as well — it doesn’t show up very well in the picture, but it’s pretty in person.

The snowflake is cut out of Silver Glimmer Paper using the largest Festive Flurry framelit. I used the Circles Collection framelits for the black circle behind Santa and cropped Santa using another Festive Flurry framelit.

The Ho (cubed) stamp is from A Banner Christmas. The “merry christmas” is from the Endless Wishes stamp set. And I finished off the card with some rhinestones and the Silver Ribbon I love so much.

Head over to Dynamic Duos and see what the rest of the design team came up with this week. There are some amazing creations over there! We’d love to see what you do with the challenge, so please play along!
