Stacked Up birthday

I love the Sprinkles of Life stamp set. Each year, Stampin’ Up! designates one stamp set that benefits Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), and this year’s set is Sprinkles of Life. Stampin’ Up! donates $3 of the purchase price for every sale of this set. It’s one of my favorites in the new annual catalog because it’s so versatile. There’s even a matching punch, the Tree Builder punch. I’ll be showing you several cards throughout the year that I’ll make with this set. It’s just so adorable.

Stampin' Up! Sprinkles of Life stamps & Cherry on Top DSP - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye

For today’s card, I used a Tip Top Taupe card base. I will admit that when I saw the new In Colors for 2015-2017, I was least excited about Tip Top Taupe. I’m not a taupe fan in general; I lean toward grays. And taupe is so bland. But just as going out of your way to befriend someone who really rubs you the wrong way can make you a lifelong friend, so can going out of your way to use a color that makes you want to go to sleep help you find a color that isn’t so bad after all. And after I made myself use TTT (I feel like I should dye my hair tips platinum and call it Triple T), I started to actually like it. On top of the card base is a layer of Watermelon Wonder cardstock, which I embossed using the Decorative Dots folder. I loved Watermelon Wonder before I ever used it. So bright and cheery.

Skewed on top of the WW layer is a piece of the Cherry on Top DSP stack, which I love (bright colors and not an overabundance of flowers!). The ice cream scoops are done in Watermelon Wonder and TTT  (same color ink and cardstock). I punched all of the scoops out with the Tree Builder punch. I stamped the cone in TTT on TTT and cut that out by hand.  I used the Multipurpose Glue and dimensionals to adhere the ice cream.

The sentiment is also from Sprinkles of Life. I stamped it in TTT, punched it out with the Washi Label punch, and then used an Aquapainter with Watermelon ink to splatter the label. The button is one of the Brights Designer Buttons, and I attached the label with Dimensionals.

The fun times happening in the upper left corner of the card are a paperclip from the Moments Like These Project Life Accessory Pack, Bermuda Bay Sequin Trim, and Crushed Curry Baker’s Twine. I used Crystal Effects to glue that decoration down.

You & Me Forever

You & Me forever - Dynamic Duos #86 DD#86 - Stampin' Up! Countless Sayings with Starburst framelits - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye

Good morning! Sorry to be so silent on the blog lately, but just as I was getting over the flu that Santa put in my stocking, my little guy and I picked up a nasty cold. So basically I’ve been sick since Christmas Day. Blerg. I’m still hanging on to a cough and a sore throat, but I’m getting better. I’ve made several cards and am finally getting back to my scrapbooking, so I hope to get back to regular-ish posting and show you what I’ve been doing around here.

Dynamic Duos #86 - Pool Party & Pink Pirouette

Today’s card is for the new challenge at Dynamic Duos. This week is our Subtly Yours challenge, and the colors are Pink Pirouette (my favorite pink!) and Pool Party. I looove this color combination! It works for babies, weddings, Valentine’s Day, birthdays… I’m pretty sure I could make a non-traditional Christmas card with it, too.

I decided to make a Valentines-y lover card, because my husband was in Boston for work most of the week, and when he got home Thursday, I wanted to give him an I-missed-you card. I signed it with something like “I’m so glad you’re home. Please never leave again.” I don’t really like it when he’s gone. :)

I can’t decide which part of this card is my favorite. The new Gold Foil Vellum just knocks my socks off (it also comes in silver!). I adhered it to the Whisper White card base using Glue Dots behind each polka dot so no adhesive shows through. I just got the Countless Sayings photopolymer stamps this week (I got both sets – I used Countless Sayings 2 on this card) and couldn’t wait to use them! They’re brilliant sets, and I have big plans for them. :) By the way, Stampin’ Up! announced this week that the photopolymer stamps are here to stay and will be added to the next Annual Catalog. *Snoopy dance*

The shredded flags are another of my favorite parts. I used the new Banner framelits from the Occasions catalog — I’ve been waiting so long for these, just wishing and hoping! And they’re finally here! After I cut the banners out with the framelits, I shredded them with the new Fringe Scissors. These scissors are perfect for making grass in landscape designs and also perfect for just adding some extra texture. I was going for an off-center card, so I didn’t line up my flag centers. I curled up the ends of the flags using my bone folder.

And then there are the Starburst framelits, also new and fantastic. And the matching starburst wood cut from the Essentials Wooden Elements — I love these wonderful little embellishments from the Occasions catalog! I added the wood cut to the card using Crystal Effects, which is the best glue for holding on heavy embellishments. After stamping “Forever” on a scrap of WW cardstock, I flagged each end using the Hexagon punch, then glued it to the wood cut. I could also have stamped directly on the wood cut, but I liked the contrast.

I added lots of fun little embellishments (ahem, can you tell I got a big shipment of Occasions goodies this week? I’m using ALL THE THINGS). Two buttons from the Subtles Designer Buttons collection, two chevrons punched out of Champagne Glimmer paper with the Chevron Border punch, and that double bow of the yummy new Gold Baker’s Twine. It’s a vanilla twine with gold foil wrapped around it — and it also comes in silver. Love it.

I hope you like my card and that it inspires you, in some way, to play along with the challenge! The other designers have made some fabulous cards, so go see what they have for you, too! I’ll be back tomorrow with my January Stamp-of-the-Month Club cards.

The Smurf Turf!

Smurf Turf handmade birthday card - Stampin' Up! - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye

I made this card for one of my daughter’s little friends. He’s a huge Boise State Broncos fan (we are, too!), so I wanted to make a Smurf Turf card. I used Whisper White Baker’s Twine to make the yard lines. Since he was turning three, I put “03” at all the yard lines instead of the yard line numbers.

This card is not even close to perfect. As you can see, I smudged the ink in places, and the numbers and letters are spaced poorly and misaligned even though I was using photopolymer stamps and could see exactly where I was stamping. Oy. I made this card in a rush with a sick, screaming baby in the other room (being held by the hubs but still unhappy).

But hey. It’s the Smurf Turf, so I don’t think anyone cared that it wasn’t perfect. At least no one in Boise! ;-)
