Happy Hooray

Good morning! Sorry I’ve been absent for a few days. It has been an emotional whirlwind of a week. My Papa, a 95-year-old World War II vet and our hero, passed away late Monday night, and as you can imagine, that’s what our whole life was about last week. We buried him Friday, and in west Texas style, they buried him in the wrong place and had to dig him up and re-bury him. We are choosing to laugh about it, because he would have laughed about it.

I am still catching up on everything. My mom is in town (she had planned to come last Monday, but obviously we were all in west Texas together), so I am likely to be a little spotty with daily blogging this week, or at least I’ll be posting at weird times.

Stampin' Up! Party Hat Birthday - Occasions 2018 - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye Papercrafts

This Party Hat birthday card is so easy to make and comes together so fast. I first stamped in Real Red, then in Pool Party, and finally in Lemon-Lime Twist. I love this three-step stamp. I think it will look even better when I have my Stamparatus (which arrives in about 3 weeks, yay!!) and can place the stamps perfectly. I also stamped the hat trim in Lemon-Lime Twist.

Stampin' Up! Party Hat Birthday - Occasions 2018 - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye Papercrafts

I stamped the “Happy Birthday” banner outline in Pool Party and the “Happy Birthday” in Real Red, then cut the banner out with the Party Hat Builder framelits. For the little side banner, I first stuck on a piece of Myths & Magic washi tape (I have to say, my washi taping is a little bit on point lately), then stamped “HOORAY” in Real Red and flagged the end with the Banner Triple Punch. I stapled the banner to the washi tape and card front with a mini stapler. Important: Staple on your banner before you attach the card front to the card base.

Shaky Birthday

Hello! It’s Friday, which means I get to create and to make customer thank you cards this afternoon… if my little toddler naps today. We went to her well baby checkup on Wednesday, and when I mentioned that my 2-year-old was skipping naps a lot, the doctor had the audacity to tell me that some 2-year-olds stop napping.

No. Nope. No. When my oldest child stopped napping at age 3, I knew I was being cheated. Because all the baby books and baby classes said they would nap until age 5. So she stopped at 3, of course. And then my son stopped napping at age 3, and that was really just the worst. So I’m sorry, but I do not accept that my 2-year-old is done with naps. She’s getting a later bedtime instead.

What were we talking about? Oh yeah. This super fun shaker card.

Stampin' Up! handmade birthday shaker card using Party Hat Birthday & Party Hat Builder framelits, Marbled background stamp, washi tape - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye Papercrafts

I cut a rectangle out of the Whisper White cardstock with my Stampin’ Trimmer (2-3/4″ x 3-3/4″), then cut the background piece slightly bigger. Before I glued the Window Sheet to the back of the Whisper White piece, I embossed it with the Polka Dot Basics folder. I glued a piece of a Window Sheet, slightly larger than the window, to the back of the Whisper White cardstock.

The background piece is stamped in LL Twist with the Marbled background stamp, which I just got, and which I now love. It reminds me of cake frosting. After I stamped the background, I attached Foam Adhesive Strips all the way around the edges of the background piece, careful not to leave any gaps for the shaker bits to fall out. The shaker bits come from the Party Hat Birthday bundle. I stamped the party hat stamp with all the cakes, hats, and gifts on it in all three colors, Emerald Envy, Berry Burst, and Lemon-Lime Twist. There is a coordinating die for this stamp that cuts out all the little bits. So I stamped it twice in Berry Burst and once each in Emerald Envy and LLT. The Emerald Envy and Berry Burst ones are in the shaker, and I used three of the LL Twist ones for outside the shaker. Once the shaker bits were in and situated, I attached the Whisper White piece to the background with the foam strips, then attached the whole thing to the Berry Burst card base with more foam strips and my favorite glue.

After I stamped the sentiment, I flagged one end with the Banner Triple Punch, then glued it to the card front. I added the little LL Twist bits with glue and Mini Dimensionals, then a strip of Myths & Magic Washi Tape and a strip of washi from Basics Pack 1. Then I added sequins and I was done.

Stampin' Up! Party Pandas - free Sale-A-Bration stamp set - with Bubbles & Fizz paper - also free - and Picture Perfect Party paper - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye Papercrafts

Isn’t this guy just the cutest?? This whole panda stamp set is adorable. And the confetti I stamped on the card base is also from the panda stamp set. The background paper is the Sale-A-Bration freebie, Bubbles & Fizz. I almost passed on this, but I’m so glad I didn’t. It’s so bright and fun. The paper in the Layering Square is Picture Perfect Party. I love both of these bold paper packs.

Happy New Year!

Stampin' Up! Party Hat Birthday bundle with Party Hat Builder framelits, Merry Cafe stamps, Ruffled embossing folder - handmade card - Happy New Year card - heat embossing - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye Papercrafts

Hey! Happy New Year’s Eve! I thought I’d make a festive card to help usher in the new year. 2017 was not my favorite, and I’m looking forward to a fresh start in 2018, even though it’s pretty much an arbitrary date that we say means things will be better. Haha. My card uses the multi-step stamp set, Party Hat Birthday, from the new Occasions catalog (available Wednesday!). I embossed in gold, silver, and copper. But I think if I were to duplicate this card, I’d try the third stamp (the one with all the tiny dots and confetti) in Archival Basic Black ink and not emboss that step.

Stampin' Up! Party Hat Birthday bundle with Party Hat Builder framelits, Merry Cafe stamps, Ruffled embossing folder - handmade card - Happy New Year card - heat embossing - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye Papercrafts

With this set, I find it easiest to start with the stamp that has the candle on top (the candle is hidden here, but it’s the one I embossed in gold). Next I emboss the one with the largest images, which is the one done in silver. Finally I fill in the teeny blank spaces with the third stamp (copper). I embossed the card base with the Ruffled Dynamic Embossing Folder. I stamped, heat embossed, and die cut my party hat, then cut the puffy edge out of Silver Foil and embossed that with the Softly Falling folder. The Gold Foil puff ball is another die in this bundle. It makes a great asterisk, too.

For the sentiment, I straightened out the “and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!” stamp (you can bend photopolymer stamps when you attach them to blocks, and you can also straighten them) from Merry Cafe and stamped it in Memento Tuxedo Black, then punched it out with the Duet Banner Punch. I also punched a banner (the other in the punch) out of Basic Black cardstock, glued the white banner to the black banner, and popped the sentiment up on Dimensionals. Everything else is on Dimensionals, too. You’re not surprised.

Some of the things I used in my card can be found in my online Stampin’ Up! store now, and the Occasions catalog and Sale-A-Bration items will be available January 3.
