Happy Hooray

Good morning! Sorry I’ve been absent for a few days. It has been an emotional whirlwind of a week. My Papa, a 95-year-old World War II vet and our hero, passed away late Monday night, and as you can imagine, that’s what our whole life was about last week. We buried him Friday, and in west Texas style, they buried him in the wrong place and had to dig him up and re-bury him. We are choosing to laugh about it, because he would have laughed about it.

I am still catching up on everything. My mom is in town (she had planned to come last Monday, but obviously we were all in west Texas together), so I am likely to be a little spotty with daily blogging this week, or at least I’ll be posting at weird times.

Stampin' Up! Party Hat Birthday - Occasions 2018 - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye Papercrafts

This Party Hat birthday card is so easy to make and comes together so fast. I first stamped in Real Red, then in Pool Party, and finally in Lemon-Lime Twist. I love this three-step stamp. I think it will look even better when I have my Stamparatus (which arrives in about 3 weeks, yay!!) and can place the stamps perfectly. I also stamped the hat trim in Lemon-Lime Twist.

Stampin' Up! Party Hat Birthday - Occasions 2018 - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye Papercrafts

I stamped the “Happy Birthday” banner outline in Pool Party and the “Happy Birthday” in Real Red, then cut the banner out with the Party Hat Builder framelits. For the little side banner, I first stuck on a piece of Myths & Magic washi tape (I have to say, my washi taping is a little bit on point lately), then stamped “HOORAY” in Real Red and flagged the end with the Banner Triple Punch. I stapled the banner to the washi tape and card front with a mini stapler. Important: Staple on your banner before you attach the card front to the card base.

Stampin' Up! Bird Banter - handmade friend card - Delightful Daisy & Coffee Break paper - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye Papercrafts #GDP120

Good evening! I hope you’re having a great weekend and have some craft time carved out sometime this weekend. I’m determined to finally get our Christmas stuff down and decorate for Valentine’s Day, so I don’t know if I will get to craft much. But I’m sure I’ll try to sneak it in!

Today I decided to play along with Global Design Project’s Case the Designer challenge. The challenge is to CASE this amazing card by Krista Frattin. It’s ultra-feminine and beautiful, and I somehow ended up with a kinda masculine card. I’m not quite sure how that happened! That’s what happens when you CASE, though. I used her layout, though I turned my card to landscape, and I went with lots of layers. Everything else is TOTALLY different.

Stampin' Up! Bird Banter - handmade friend card - Delightful Daisy & Coffee Break paper - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye Papercrafts #GDP120

This was my first play with the adorable Bird Banter stamp set. I knew I wanted two birds facing each other on one branch, because I really wanted to use this sentiment. I stamped the branch in Soft Suede. I decided to paint the leaves using Brusho, though really it came out kind of Old Olive, so I could have just used my Old Olive Blends. I used a plastic painter’s tray to mix colors and used one tap of Prussian Blue crystals and about six taps of Yellow crystals, then mixed them with water. I painted the leaves with this mixture, but I used as little water as possible, because I was painting on regular Whisper White. After it dried, I went back in and added a tiny bit of paint to the center point of each leaf.

I masked off the branch before stamping the birds. I colored the Macaw with Stampin’ Blends in Cherry Cobbler (Light & Dark), Night of Navy (Light & Dark), and Daffodil Delight (Light & Dark). I colored in the bottom half of the beak with a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker. I used the Light Smoky Slate to color the edges of the white parts of his face and beak, then I used the Color Lifter to really soften the Smoky Slate and blend it out. I added a few shadows around the outside edge with the Light Smoky Slate and used the Color Lifter the same way. To color the cockatoo, I used Light & Dark Daffodil Delight on his comb and carried the Light Daffodil down into his face, then smoothed out the edges with the Color Lifter. I used Light & Dark Pumpkin Pie on his wing and tail feathers. His beak is done with Light Night of Navy and Light Smoky Slate. Then I added shadows with Light Smoky Slate and the Color Lifter. Finally, I shaded under the branch with Light Smoky Slate.

The rest of the card is designer series paper (green background – Delightful Daisy, Soft Sky circle – Coffee Break, wood-look banner – Wood Textures).

Wagon You’re Dragon

Stampin' Up! handmade punny card - Magical Day stamp set, Brusho background, fun card for friends - dragons - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye Papercrafts

I mean, we all need to hear this now and then, right?! (Since a couple of my knitting buddies didn’t know, I will explain: it means you have a nice derriere.) I think this would be a perfect card to send to a friend who’s feeling down and just needs to hear something nice about herself (or himself, idk), or to make and give to your husband so he can give it to you when you’re feeling particularly blah. Or when you’ve lost a little of that holiday weight. Anyway, a very useful encouragement card to have in your stash.

Stampin' Up! handmade punny card - Magical Day stamp set, Brusho background, fun card for friends - dragons - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye Papercrafts

I made the background with Brusho crystals (yes, again! They’re so much fun!). For this one, I spritzed the area I wanted to cover with water (on watercolor paper), and then used Moss Green, Brilliant Red, and Gamboge sprinkled kind of randomly all over the card. I dabbed pools as they formed and tilted the paper all around to get good coverage. Once it dried, it just kind of looked like dragon fire to me, so I went with that and pulled out my new Magical Day bundle. This is my faaaaaaaaaaavorite bundle in the new catalog. I absolutely adore it and all the other accessories that come in the Myths & Magic suite. I colored the dragon with Blends (Cherry Cobbler, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, and Old Olive, all in Light and Dark and with the Color Lifter) and cut her and her fire out with the coordinating dies. I made the sentiment with the Labeler Alphabet.

Picture Perfect Christmas

Stampin' Up! Picture Perfect Birthday (coming Occasions 2018), Watercolor Christmas, Foil Snowflakes - handmade Christmas card - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye Papercrafts

Hey there! I’ll tell ya, I am having a hard time stamping with anything but the new stuff from the Occasions catalog that begins January 3. I always get so excited about a new catalog, and this time is no different!

But it’s also still Christmas time, and there’s a color challenge at Global Design Project that uses a very Christmassy combination, so I compromised and made a Christmas card that uses a birthday stamp set from the new Occasions catalog. Win-win!

Stampin' Up! Picture Perfect Birthday (coming Occasions 2018), Watercolor Christmas, Foil Snowflakes - handmade Christmas card - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye Papercrafts

Aren’t those little gift bows cute? They come from the Picture Perfect Birthday stamp set (I’m in love with the whole Picture Perfect Birthday suite). The main color for the red bows is Real Red, stamped off once on scratch paper and then stamped on the Whisper White cardstock. The shadows on the red bow are done in Real Red but are not stamped off first. The green bows are done the same way, but with Lemon-Lime Twist. The shadows are not stamped off, but the bows are. The sentiment is from Watercolor Christmas, which is retiring (sadface). I popped in a gold Foil Snowflake and some 3/8″ Classic Weave Ribbon in Crumb Cake. My favorite embellishments, though, are those tiny little epoxy dots. These are from the Glitter & Clear Epoxy Shapes, also coming in the Occasions catalog. I colored them with the Dark Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Blends Marker.

For the inside, I stamped the Real Red bow again in the corner. Just a little extra something.
