Oh Hello Friend

Stampin' Up! Coffee Cafe bundle with Coffee Cups framelits and Oh So Eclectic - watercolor wash - ice cream handmade card - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye Papercrafts

This is my card for the Creative Crew’s color challenge this month at Splitcoaststampers. Our theme this month is vacation/staycation, and that means… summer, which I only tolerate for the peaches. So I am saying, “Oh Hello Friend” to this tasty ice cream.

This is my last month on the Creative Crew. I am honored to have been asked, and it has challenged me creatively for sure.

The colors are greens and brown and a light pink. I decided to simplify the color palette and chose Chocolate Chip, Lemon-Lime Twist, and Powder Pink.

I started with a Lemon-Lime Twist watercolor wash on Shimmery White cardstock. When the Lemon-Lime Twist was mostly dry, I filled in a little around the edges of the wash with Powder Pink. The ice cream and cup are from the Coffee Cafe bundle. I stamped the cup with the floral bouquet from Wood Words.

I finished the card off with Iridescent Sequins and Silver Mini Sequin Trim.

You can buy all of the products I used in my card in my online Stampin’ Up! store.

Picnic Treats

Stampin' Up! picnic-themed goodies and handmade card - paper picnic basket with Wood Textures dsp stack, treat container, basket weave, watermelon, Cool Treats, Tabs for Everything - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye Papercrafts

Here’s my final Creative Crew project for July. Make sure you check out the Creative Crew gallery to see everyone’s projects for the month. It’s a great gallery!

For the Inspired to Create challenge, I started with the picnic basket from this inspiration photo.

Stampin' Up! Wood Textures dsp stack, basket weave paper picnic basket, watermelon candy treat container, Tabs for Everything

For the picnic basket, I started with 1/2″ strips of one design of the Wood Textures dsp stack. I wove these together until I thought I could make a basket out of it. I glued the ends so the woven paper would stay in place, then cut off any excess paper. I cut flaps, as if making a box, folded it all together, and adhered with Tear & Tape. Then decorated the basket.

The doily has to go on first. Then I cut a piece of Cherry Cobbler cardstock for the bottom of the inside of the basket and one for each of the short ends (this is mainly to cover up the doily scraps on the inside of the basket, because the doily is folded in). I cut 1/2″ strips of a contrasting paper (the same paper I used for the handle) and curved these around the outside corners (to hide uneven holes in the basket weave and reinforce the basket).

Important! Fill your basket with treats before giving it a handle — it’s prettier this way (I tried it the other way). After the treats were in, I added a 1/2″ x 6″ strip of the contrasting paper for the handle. Then I put the ribbon around the top edge of the basket with Tear & Tape. I put the largest size of Clear Faceted Gems on where the handle meets the basket.

For the treat bag inside, I used a 3-3/4″ x 6″ cello bag (not SU). I put it inside the basket to fill it to make sure I didn’t end up overfilling it. I tied it closed with the ribbon. For the tag, I used strips of Whisper White cardstock and the wood paper. The gingham print on the tag is from the Tabs For Everything stamp set (the stamp with a bunch of horizontal lines — stamp it once, then turn it 90 degrees and stamp again). The watermelon rind is a scalloped circle stamp from Tabs for Everything. I colored it in with the Flirty Flamingo marker. Then I stamped the watermelon seeds (candle flames stamp from Tabs for Everything) in Memento Tuxedo Black and punched out the watermelon with the 3/4″ circle punch. “You’re Sweet” comes from Sweet Cupcake.

This cello bag is done mostly the same as the one in the picnic basket, but the “Fresh Treats” comes from the Wood Words stamp set.

I made the card last, just for fun. I decided to stay with the same colors, even though Cherry Cobbler, Emerald Envy, and Flirty Flamingo don’t jump out at me as “hey, great color combo!”. For the picnic table cloth, I started with 1/4″ strips of Cherry Cobbler cardstock and glued down the vertical strips first (those are 2″ tall, spaced about 1/2″ apart). For the horizontal strips, I started with the top one and worked my way down. I glued the last strip to the bottom of the card and then cut off the excess.

The watermelon is cut using the Stitched Shapes framelits. I free-cut the seeds with Snips.

I hope my Creative Crew projects have inspired you to go make something! It’s going to be hot today; you might as well stay inside and craft. #onlyfourmoremonthsofsummer

Super Starry Birthday

Stampin' Up! Stylized Birthday and Wood Words - CAS clean and simple handmade birthday card - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye Papercrafts

For the Step-It-Up Creative Crew challenge at Splitcoast this month, I made July-themed birthday cards. In the USA, we’re all about the Stars & Stripes in July. PLUS it’s my birthday month, so this seemed appropriate. This card is all stamping and rhinestones. The card base is Thick Whisper White cardstock. I stamped the Stylized Birthday stamp in Real Red, then stamped the star from Wood Words in Night of Navy. To finish off the clean-and-simple version of this card, I added some rhinestones. Done with that one!

The stepped up version of this card just makes me so happy! I added a lot more stars, making my own background with Night of Navy and Real Red ink. Then I added an oval (the largest oval in the Stitched Shapes framelits) of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper. I cut the Happy Birthday out of both Real Red and Whisper White cardstock, then glued the two die cuts together, slightly offset.

I popped the sentiment up on Mini Dimensionals (cut in half and thin strips cut from the outer edge). Remember to put glue on your Dimensionals when you’re popping stuff up on Glimmer Paper, or your stuff will fall off.  I added a bow of Whisper White Baker’s Twine and several rhinestones to finish off my stepped up version of the card.

For the inside, I just stamped some more stars. I love these stars from the Wood Words stamp set! The weathered look gives me all the Americana feels.

Life is Beautiful – Introducing Memories & More

Stampin' Up! Color Theory Memories & More card pack with Eastern Medallions thinlits, Colorful Seasons stamps, Wood Words stamps, Hexagon Dynamic embossing folder and new Mini Chevron Ribbon - Splitcoaststampers Creative Crew - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye Papercrafts

Hey there! This card is for the Splitcoaststampers Creative Crew inspiration challenge for June. This is my favorite of my five projects that I made for the Crew this month!

For the inspiration challenge this month, I was inspired by this bold fuchsia flower with gold and green accents.

Stampin' Up! Color Theory Memories & More card pack with Eastern Medallions thinlits, Colorful Seasons stamps, Wood Words stamps, Hexagon Dynamic embossing folder and new Mini Chevron Ribbon - Splitcoaststampers Creative Crew - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye Papercrafts

I started with an Old Olive card base and stamped and embossed the flower spray from Wood Words in white on the card base. I stamped it three times. LOVE this look!

The two 3″x4″ pieces of DSP on top of the embossed card base are not DSP at all. They are pocket cards from our new memory keeping collection, Memories and More.  I absolutely adore the Color Theory M&M collection (sorry, I’m going to call it M&M and sometimes maybe even Eminem).

Stampin' Up! Color Theory Memories & More card pack with Eastern Medallions thinlits, Colorful Seasons stamps, Wood Words stamps, Hexagon Dynamic embossing folder and new Mini Chevron Ribbon - Splitcoaststampers Creative Crew - Sarah Fleming - Prepare to Dye Papercrafts

I tied the ribbon around the card base — this is the super soft 3/8″ Mini Chevron Ribbon, and it comes in Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry, and Old Olive. It is the easiest ribbon to tie into a beautiful bow! And did I mention how soft it is? It’s kitty soft, and I know this because I sometimes pet it. *side eye* Look at the drape on this ribbon!

I used the Eastern Medallions Thinlits to recreate the big, bursting flower. I punched a piece of Gold Foil out with the 2″ Circle punch, then embossed the Gold Foil with the Hexagons folder (this matches the decoration on the inside of the card as well). I put Dimensionals between all the layers and under the flower.

And lookit those Glitter Enamel Dots. You can order them today.

I chose the “Life is a beautiful thing” sentiment, because it just seemed perfect for both our theme (Promises of New Things) and this vibrant flower.

I lined the inside of the card with some Whisper White cardstock and added a sticker from the M&M card pack to coordinate with the hexagons embossed on the front of the card.
